V3.0.0-beta.17 · unflashed device · guided first setup
The RotaryKnob contains two processors. The orientation of the USB-C plug determines which one is connected. This wizard stores progress locally in your browser.
Connect USB-C and select the port identified as ESP32-S3. The installer rejects other chip families.
Important: after writing reaches 100%, keep the dialog open, wait for “Installation complete”, select Next, and enter Wi-Fi in that same dialog.
The display may briefly turn off. The second processor is now available.
Select the port identified as ESP32 — without “S3” — and use the same Wi-Fi network.
Required bridge restart: after “Installation complete”, close the dialog, unplug USB for two seconds, and reconnect it in the same ESP32 orientation. This starts the newly flashed application before Wi-Fi setup.
After reconnecting, use the button below. Select the same ESP32 port and wait up to 10 seconds for Connect to Wi-Fi. This opens Improv without flashing again.
This is one RotaryKnob with two chips. Install PassionWave through HACS first, restart Home Assistant, then power-cycle the RotaryKnob. PassionWave uses ESPHome 2026.7 to assign an individual encryption key to PassionWave RotaryKnob and PassionWave RotaryKnob Bridge without showing or asking you for a key.
